Missing Mother
Dear Eze,
My family runs a farm outside of Wintsnd where we provide goods and services to a wide range of customers- mostly our neighbors. We’re a big family, with plenty of cousins to tend stock and haul produce, but the majority of our clientele are handled by the farms founder, my mother.
Recently my mother has disappeared Up the Hill, and she hasn’t come home in a fortnight. The cousin we sent after her didn’t find anything but a half-formed mushroom circle with her footprints next to it. We are concerned she may have fallen into a the hands of the fey folk that live up there.
I’m actually less concerned for my mother- she is a veteran solider, and this would not be her first, or even her second encounter with something fey, and we’re confident she’ll find her way home eventually- but the fey are notorious for being out of step with the rest of time, and my mother is the only one in our family who gets on well with a good third of our customers.
How can I maintain business relationships while we wait for mom to find her way home?
Sincerely,
-Missing Mother
Dear Missing,
I’m glad to hear that your mother has some experience with the fey. With any luck knows to avoid eating something she shouldn’t. You wouldn’t believe the number of missing persons I’ve learned of that vanished because a particularly tempting pastry they were offered Underhill. That being said, even if she is cautious, Underhill is not exactly known for speedy returns.
The best advice I can give you is WWMD- What Would Mom Do? How would she approach these business relations, and what would she be sure to do? If it’s not an invasion of privacy, check to see if she has any notes or information written down on any clients that you can refer to in her absence.
In the future, it might be wise to apprentice yourself, or maybe a small cousin, to your mother so that they can learn her tools of the trade and build up another point of contact with your clientele. This way, if your mother wanders off again, there is someone to keep things running until she wanders back home.
Best of luck,
-Eze C
