Field Notes IV
I’ve been on the road for eight days now and I haven’t slept in three. I haven’t really slept since I left Jeffries. I know I’m probably being paranoid, but I’m not underestimating Snaca. She’s good at what she does, and I’ve seen her bring in some unfindable target more times than I’ve seen her fail. I’m not taking any chances.
I’m about a day or two outside of Mittflare, less if I go up and over the ridge instead of around. Even less if Midge’s bridge has edged out of town some more, but I can’t count on that. Last time it was sucked up so tight to the town center, it barely stretched the full length of the gorge.
Maybe I should do a piece on how annoying enchanted infrastructure can be.
Writing is a struggle. I keep zoning out staring at the tree line, jumping at phantom sounds. I know better than to go without sleep- my species may be adaptable, but we’re deeply tied to our rest cycles, and I have been pushing it. And I swear there is something moving through the treeline.
Anyway, I asked Al to send a raven to Petsch with some agreed on questions; hopefully that will help her stay on track with her answers. I love it when she rambles, but usually I’m there to ask questions in the moments and this long-distance thing is going to put a crimp in that.
The raven should reach me in Mittflare in a ten-day, which is pushing it, but I’ve got a few Dear Eze’s I left with Al which should by me some time. The goal is to keep Snaca as close to Hamitsdown and as far away from Mittflare as possible. At least if she’s hunting for me in the city she’s distracted.
